Brain Research Katrin Amunts Awarded the International Justine and Yves Sergent Award
Helmholtz Information congratulates: Prof. Katrin Amunts has been honored with the 2023 International Justine and Yves Sergent Award. The award is given to internationally renowned researchers for outstanding achievements in cognitive neuroscience and brain imaging. The award ceremony took place at a conference at the University of Montreal (Canada) on Friday, December 8. Katrin Amunts delivered a keynote on “Human Brain Atlas – Mapping the Human Brain for a Better Understanding of Its Functions.” (Source: Forschungszentrum Jülich – Press Releases)
The Justine and Yves Sergent Fund was established with the aim of internationally recognizing and promoting outstanding achievements in the field of cognitive neuroscience. This includes the annual awarding of the International Justine and Yves Sergent Award. Past recipients include researchers who have made significant contributions at the interface between cognitive neuropsychology and functional neuroimaging.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award. This recognition underscores the commitment of the neuroscience community to exploring the complexity of the human brain,” said Amunts.
Katrin Amunts is the Director of the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine (INM-1) at the Forschungszentrum Jülich, Director of the Cécile and Oskar Vogt Institute for Brain Research at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, and Joint-CEO of EBRAINS. From 2016 to 2023, she was the scientific coordinator of the EU flagship Human Brain Project.
Amunts and her team developed the Julich Brain Atlas, a tool that helps scientists around the world understand how cognitive functions and behavior are connected to the microstructural organization of the brain. The Julich Brain Atlas assists clinicians in planning medical interventions more precisely. It serves as a basis for integrating brain data at multiple levels and scales into a common reference framework.
