Membership is awarded for outstanding achievements in science and is considered a prestigious recognition. (Source: Forschungszentrum Jülich – Press Releases)

David DiVincenzo leads the Jülich Institute for Theoretical Nanoelectronics. The physicist is considered one of the pioneers of quantum information research and is a leading expert in the field of quantum information processing. He is best known for the development of the DiVincenzo criteria, the key criteria for building quantum computers.

DiVincenzo received his PhD in 1983 from the University of Pennsylvania and then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell University before joining the research staff at the IBM Watson Research Center in New York. In 2010, he received the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Professorship, which led him as a professor to the Institute for Theoretical Quantum Information at RWTH Aachen and to the Peter Grünberg Research Center. Since 2017, he has also been a professor of Electrical Engineering at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

Since 1999, DiVincenzo has been a Fellow of the American Physical Society and since 2011, Associate Editor for the Reviews of Modern Physics. He continues to research the optimization of spin qubit and superconducting qubit systems.

About the National Academy of Sciences

https://www.nasonline.org/

The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is a private, nonprofit society comprised of leading scientists from various disciplines. The NAS was founded in 1863 by American President Abraham Lincoln and has the mission to provide independent and objective advice to the U.S. government on matters of science and technology. Scientists are elected into the NAS by their peers for outstanding contributions to research. The NAS advocates for the promotion of science in America, and its members actively contribute to the international scientific community.
