In addition to the German Bundestag and the EU Parliament, the Institute of Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) of KIT now also advises the members of the Austrian Parliament. In doing so, it acts as a partner of the lead Institute of Technology Assessment (ITA) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Following up on a successful pilot phase, ITA had recently been awarded the contract to continue advising the Vienna parliament.

“We very much welcome that the Austrian National Council has decided to anchor evidence-based policy advice in the field of technology assessment more firmly, similar to the German Bundestag and other parliaments in Europe,” Armin Grunwald, who heads the Office of Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag in addition to ITAS, comments on the decision. “We are all the more pleased that we will be able to help shape this process in the coming years alongside our highly esteemed colleagues at ITA.”

The joint task will be to prepare biannual monitoring reports on technical-social developments. In addition to the qualitative evaluation of sources, the researchers also want to make use of AI-supported quantitative evaluations for the first time. ITAS will test the extent to which socio-technical trends can be detected on the basis of web-based information and by means of artificial intelligence.
