Researchers of the Helmholtz Association regularly go on mission: excursions and expeditions take them to all continents, under water and into the air. In this blog, researchers from different Helmholtz centers report on the experiences of their expeditions.

SouthTRAC

The „SouthTRAC“ campaign investigates atmospheric chemical and dynamical processes in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere of the Southern Hemisphere with the HALO research aircraft. SouthTRAC is a joint project of KIT, DLR, Research Center Jülich and the universities of Mainz, Frankfurt, Heidelberg and Wuppertal. The campaign will take place in two main phases in September and November 2019. The base for the research flights over the South Atlantic and Antarctica is Rio Grande in Tierra del Fuego at the southern tip of Argentina.
