What is your qualifying background?
I’m an ocean modeler. I studied marine science in my bachelor degree and oceanography in my master degree in Ocean University of China. I got my PhD degree in University of Hamburg, with the research focusing on the effect of underwater light on the phytoplankton dynamics in coastal waters. Since then, I have been working on modelling study of the marine ecosystem dynamics in various regions such as the Bohai Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the North Atlantic and the North Sea. The aim is to understand the physical-biogeochemical interactions, the ecosystem predictability and the response of carbon cycle to human interventions such as ocean alkalinity enhancement.
How would you describe your working daily routine?
I use a cup of coffee to start my day. Then I sit in front of my computer most of the time, to tune my numerical model, analyze the results, read literatures, and write. In between, I attend online meetings/seminars, deal with emails or discuss questions with colleagues.
What has been your biggest success so far?
Trying to find out something that nobody knows the answer is always an exciting motivation to me. So each time I got to answer certain questions in my working field, that was a big success to me. Of course, at the special Corona period, a good combination of working at home and taking care of my little daughter is a big success!
Do you have a big goal?
Since most of the time I am working on the regional areas. I hope that I can transfer the knowledge/experience that I obtained in a certain area to a wider range of locations so that I can contribute to a close network of the marine studies.
Do you have any personal distinctive mark?
Oh, almost no … I will try to develop some in the future …
