Welchen fachlichen Hintergrund haben Sie? / What is your qualifying background?
Ich habe im Bachelor „Hydrologie“ und anschließend im Master „Wasserwirtschaft“ an der Technischen Universität Dresden studiert. Während ich mich in meiner Bachelorarbeit noch mit der Klimaanpassung von Talsperren beschäftigte, habe ich mich im Master den stabilen Isotopen zugewandt und habe darüber auch meine Promotionsstelle am Hereon bekommen. Seit März 202o bin ich nun Doktorandin in der Abteilung „Aquatische Nährstoffkreisläufe“ und untersuche den Stickstoffumsatz im Ästuar, das ist der durch die Tide beeinflusste Teil eines Flusses. Hierbei liegt mein Fokus insbesondere auf der Produktion von Lachgas (ein klimaschädliches Treibhausgas) und den stabilen Isotopen von Nitrat.
I studied hydrology in my bachelor degree and water management in my master degree at the Technical University of Dresden. While my bachelor thesis dealt with possible climate change adaptations of dams, I turned towards stable isotopes during my master. This helped me to get my PhD position at Hereon. Since March 2020, I am now working as a PhD candidate in the department “Aquatic Nutrient Cycles”. I study the nitrogen cycle in estuaries, the part of the river influenced by the tide. I focus on the production of nitrous oxide (a potent greenhouse gas) and the dual stable isotopes of nitrate.
Wie sieht ein typischer Arbeitstag aus? / How would you describe your working daily routine?
Mein Arbeitsalltag ist sehr abwechslungsreich. Häufig bin ich im Labor und messe meine Proben. Es gibt aber auch Tage, an denen ich vor allem am Schreibtisch sitze und mit meinen Daten arbeite oder Paper schreibe. In den letzten beiden Jahren war ich auch viel auf Messkampagnen, die immer eine große Abwechslung im normalen Arbeitsalltag darstellen – nicht nur während der Kampagne, sondern auch im Vorfeld und in der Nachbearbeitung.
My working daily routine varies. Often, I am in the lab measuring samples. However, there are also days were I mainly sit at my desk working on data or writing papers. In the last two years, I was part on multiple research cruises, which are always a great change in the normal working routine – not only during the campaigns, but also during the time of preparation and post-processing.
Was war Ihr bisher größter Erfolg? / What has been your biggest success so far?
Ich habe schon immer von Expeditionen ans Meer geträumt und gerade bin ich von einer Atlantiküberquerung mit dem Forschungsschiff „Sonne“ zurückgekommen. Das war für mich eine einzigartige und wunderschöne Erfahrung, die ich auch gerne nochmal wiederholen würde.
I have always dreamed about expeditions to the ocean and I have just returned from an Atlantic crossing on the research vessel „Sonne“. That was a wonderful and unique experience, which I would love to repeat again.
Was ist Ihr großes Ziel? / Do you have a big goal?
Im nächsten Jahr meine Promotion erfolgreich abzuschließen.

Was ist Ihr persönliches Markenzeichen? / Do you have any personal distinctive mark?
Ich trage häufig einen Stift im Haar. Wenn man im Arbeitsalltag zwischen Labor und Büro hin und her wechselt, ist es immer praktisch einen Stift greifbar zu haben.
Often, I carry a pen in my hair. When you switch between the office and lab in your day-to-day work, it is always handy to have a pen with you.
