What is your qualifying background?
Studied Diplom Biology in Heidelberg with emphasis on ‘Water Science’. My PhD was at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel on biofouling in coastal down to deep sea environments.
How would you describe your working daily routine?
Daily routine? What is that? And I love that. My work has so many facets that a daily routine would take out the creative part.
Off course one has to keep a good overview and prioritize to not lose track. What I am currently missing though (due to the restrictions) are the travels to meetings, workshops etc. The outcome and output of these digital ones are definitely not the same.
What has been your biggest success so far?
Biggest success professionally is that one of my publications has been cited as “groundbreaking”. Do I need to publish more? 😉 Just kidding.
I was the first biologist performing in situ experiments and working on bioufouling at the deepest point of the Mediterranean Sea, and thus in the framework of an astrophysical project.
While more importantly for me and what I truly see as the biggest success so far, is that I was able to build a network of collaborators across Europe and overseas with whom we are sharing the same professional and private values. As a result we have become true friends. If one of you read this, thank you & cheers to that!
The biggest success on a private level stay private.
Do you have a big goal?
Yes definitely and more than one!
Do you have any personal distinctive mark?
My two signatures greetings … one of it is ’Aws 🙂 ’
