PhD Position (m/f/d) in the area of Coastal Ocean Turbulence

The Institute of Coastal Research is investigating the influence of offshore wind farm structures on the dynamics of coastal seas. The interaction of tidal and coastal currents with the offshore wind farm foundation structures creates anthropogenic sources of turbulence that contribute to additional mixing and transport of buoyancy that can affect stratification levels. Primarily through the use of Large Eddy Simulations (LES), the candidate will investigate this mixing process with the aim of producing a parameterisation suitable for use in larger scale regional models. The work will contribute to our understanding of the response to offshore wind farm development in the German region of the North Sea. The project may also involve the collection of field data.

We invite applications for a PhD position (m/f/d) in the area of Coastal Ocean Turbulence (department Small-scale Physics and Turbulence). The position is limited to three years (starting as soon as possible) with the degree being awarded through the University of Hamburg.
