Sie werden in der Abteilung „Chemietransportmodellierung“ im Projekt „ShipCHEM – Regional air quality impacts of ship emissions from megaports in the Yangtze River Delta, China, and in Northern Europe“ arbeiten. Das Projekt ist eine von der DFG geförderte bilaterale Kooperation zwischen dem Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht und der Tongji-Universität Shanghai/China. Die Arbeiten erfolgen in Zusammenarbeit mit der Universität Hamburg.

PhD student position (m/f) in Ecosystem Modelling

The Institute of coastal research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht invites applications for a 3-year PhD student position (m/f) in Ecosystem Modelling. The place of employment is Geesthacht, Germany.

The objective of the position is to improve the mechanistic understanding of spatial gradients and temporal changes in benthic and pelagic ecosystem dynamics. The successful candidate will use available monitoring data for the southern North Sea. She/He will apply and further develop adaptive and trait-based models for macrobenthic fauna embedded into an existing coupled model of benthic and pelagic processes

==> Closing date for applications is July 8th, 2018

PhD Position (m/f) in Application of machine learning methods to regional climate predictions

The Institute of Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht hosts a number of highly motivated and experienced researchers in the broad field of coastal research. The group ‘Coastal Impacts and Paleoclimate’ invites for a three-years PhD position (m/f) in Application of machine learning methods to regional climate predictions. The place of employment is Geesthacht, Germany.

The proposed PhD project will explore the potential of a range of already existing machine learning algorithms for seasonal and decadal climate predictions at regional scales, first in controlled conditions using synthetic data from long climate simulations, and later with real observations. The target region is the North Atlantic-European sector and the target climate variables will be related to processes important for the regional and coastal climate, such as ocean surface temperatures, winds and precipitation.

Scientist (m/f) In the research project Digital Earth

The advancement of Earth system understanding critically depends on the better integration of data and knowledge from different Earth science disciplines. In the Helmholtz Association project Digital Earth, natural and data scientists work closely together to gain new insights from the ever-growing amount and variety of research data using novel concepts and methods. They are looking for solutions, in particular with regard to the processing of fast-growing, multi-parameter data through employing existing Data Science methods, adapting new algorithms and developing digital workflows tailored to specific scientific needs. Digital Earth integrates the competences of all eight Helmholtz Centers in the research field Earth and Environment.

More information about the project can be found at
