April to August in Pictures – Shelter, Radome and Library in the Ice

In this blog entry, I’ll share some breath-taking images of our library, radome and portable shelter – something a bit like a camper and equipped with bunk beds, a generator and heating system.

We keep the shelter parked close to the station. The only things kept inside are the bare basics, like extra clothing. In an emergency, we can all gather in the shelter. That gives us the chance to discuss the situation and, in the absolute worst-case scenario, begin the journey to the E-Base, five kilometres away.

The radome is what makes it possible to send you this blog entry; it houses a dish connected to Bremerhaven by satellite, which ensures we can communicate with the rest of the world.

The library in the ice also makes for a nice subject.
